BlackBuddy isn't a generic safety app with a diversity filter slapped on. Every decision — from invite-only access to real-time SOS — was made with Black lives specifically in mind.
Not everyone gets in. That's the point.
BlackBuddy is not open to the public. Every member enters through a referral from an existing vetted member, or direct invitation where we thoroughly review each person. This isn't gatekeeping — it's protection. A network is only as safe as its weakest link. And everyone must go through a thorough background check - no exceptions. We cannot chance accepting "pretenders."
Referral path
An existing member vouches for you. Their reputation is on the line — which means they only invite people they genuinely trust.

You receive a link. We review your application, verify your identity, and check your community standing before granting access.
No exceptions
There is no backdoor. No premium tier that skips vetting. Every single member — including our team — goes through the same process.
Your network is your shield.
Once you’re vetted, BlackBuddy instantly links you to trusted Black Buddies who are already nearby—neighbors, students, drivers, night-shift workers. They see your pre-alerts, monitor your status, and step in when seconds matter. Friends and family can’t always reach you; a local Buddy can.
Curated connections
You choose which vetted Buddies stay in your circle, no random algorithm picks your rescuers.
Mutual accountability
Every Buddy who accepts an alert commits to act. Strike rules keep the network serious.
Location sharing
Share real-time location only during Heads-Up or SOS. When you’re clear, the feed shuts off, privacy intact, safety delivered.

There are dozens of safety apps. Most of them weren't built for us. Black Buddy was built from the ground up by Black people who have been in the situations this app is designed for. That's not a marketing line — it's our lives. We don't need to hear another "accidental death" or hear news about another Black Person hanging from a tree.
